Name Meaning: Egil is French for, "The Edge point [as of a sword or knife], or sting." Sirius is the brightest star in the sky of the Northern Hemisphere and the principal star in in the constellation Canis Major. The dogstar Sirius is burning up most of its fuel supply furiously, making it very short-lived.

Personality: It's his love for trouble and the inability to think practically that causes Sirius to be reckless so often. He'll rush into anything before thinking, if only for one, last cheap thrill. As extroverted as Sirius may seem, in reality he's very introverted; there's a good chance you're only seeing what he wants you to see.

You'll need track shoes to keep up with these Geminis. They have so much energy that they exhaust nearly everyone, save other Gryffindor Geminis. In class, they love to get into debates with the professor. Out of class, they love to get into trouble. These Gryffindor Geminis are easily stirred by romantic dreams and noble causes (by Isobel Wren).

Background: Sirius was something of a rebel from childhood, being sorted into Gryffindor rather than Slytherin House, where the rest of his family were traditionally placed. Heads were turned the night of the Sorting Ceremony. At first Sirius endured skepticism from both Houses (as neither felt they could trust him), but particularly from one boy, James Potter.

The two became rivals right from the start, competing for attention until they found an enemy more common than themselves -- Severus Snape. Finding that they worked much better together, than against each other, a bond soon formed and thereafter Sirius was rarely seen without James by his side. Later, Sirius also formed close friendships with dorm mates Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, but Potter remained to be the only person to see his inner demons.

At the age of fifteen, Sirius illegally became an Animagi to keep Remus company while in his werewolf state. However, he, James, and Peter, who also became unregistered Animagi, used their forms for other means, exploring the school grounds and the Forbidden Forest, which led to the creation of the Marauder's Map.

The summer Sirius turned sixteen he ran away from home. With nowhere else to go, he ended up at Godric's Hollow at the front doorstep of the Potters.
